Tonagena

Tonagena puts into practice the research results of the bio-electromagnetism (BioEM) team at the CTU Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, which studies the effects of electromagnetic fields on biological tissue. Its key product is TonaPulse®, a laboratory system for generating precisely defined high-voltage pulses. Short electrical pulses can temporarily or permanently increase the permeability of cell membranes and so allow, for example, genetic material or DNA-editing tools to be delivered into cells. The essential advantage of TonaPulse® is the ability to set the parameters of the electrical pulses flexibly, according to the needs of a particular experiment. Where common systems offer researchers pre-defined options, TonaPulse® lets them look for the combination of parameters that will work for their specific cells and their specific experiment. Researchers are therefore not limited by preset procedures, which can significantly cut the time and cost of finding a suitable solution. Among other things, the technology has important uses in research into cancer therapies. TonaPulse® is followed by TonaWell, an electrode platform intended mainly for experiments with cells that attach to a surface as they are cultured. Both products have already been tested in cooperation with the Second and Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and hold CE certification. In August 2026, Tonagena presented its electroporation platform at the Techsauce Global Summit in Bangkok. Competing with around 350 exhibiting companies, it won the Techsauce Innovation Award 2026 and was named one of the eight most innovative companies honoured there.
